Youth Athlete Programme

Here at Athletic Edge, we believe that everyone deserves access to the best facilities and coaches available, regardless of their current level. We’ve lost count the number of times we’ve seen young athletes wandering around a gym looking lost, performing an exercise with poor technique or training in a way that could be detrimental to their sporting performance or health.

With this in mind, we decided to create the Athlete Development Programme. The aim of this programme is to coach youth athletes how to train properly for their respective sports and have fun while doing it. All the sessions are in small groups of 8 or less and are led by a highly qualified Strength and Conditioning coach, who will guide the group through all the exercises. This programme is designed to push the athletes hard and ensure they’re ready to perform at a higher level in their sport.

During the programme

During the programme, we coach the athletes using free weight and body weight exercises, ensuring that they’re comfortable and proficient with these movements before we add any resistance. We coach running mechanics to improve the athletes speed, agility, acceleration and running efficiency. As this higher level of training is new to a lot of our athletes, it’s important for us to teach them how to prepare for and recover after each of our sessions. This includes teaching them what to eat and when to eat it!
